Not for Everyone

When Human Heart was first launched in 2008, nobody bought it. I sensed both hesitation and fascination. It was an anatomical heart, after all, rather than the familiar shape we associate with love.

I often think about that first reaction. The heart has not become any less anatomical. But something that seemed unsettling has become something people want to keep close.

I don’t think every piece needs to become more familiar. The Spine Cuff follows the wrist with a form we usually keep hidden inside the body.

I want my work to find people. To be worn, collected, lived with and kept.

Not everyone. But someone who recognises a part of themselves in it.
